The Rosehill Gardens Racecourse has a busy few weeks ahead as it gears up to hold the Sydney Autumn Carnival, and one of the headline days will of course be the Golden Slipper Day, on the 3rd of April.
While the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) is the headline race for the day, the 2010 BMW Stakes will also be run, and will once again provide an intense staying event.
The 2010 BMW Stakes will once again provide an intense staying event.
The Group 1 race which spans over 2,400 metres, puts the weight-for-age entrants through their paces, all the while competing for the highly lucrative $2.25 million on offer to them.
It seems Littorio will be a starter at the 2010 BMW Stakes hoping to find good form after a recent dry-spell. The Nigel Blackiston-trained gelding raced in the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes (1400m) in February and came in fifth spot, however needs to prove himself over the longer distance.
Another possibility to line up at the Rosehill Racecourse may be David Hayes’ Our Aqaleem. The six-year-old has had a good start to the year winning the Henry Bucks Best Dressed Handicap (1600m) in January. After being out due to injury Our Aqaleem may storm into the 2010 BMW Stakes as a favourite.
Finishing sixth at the Melbourne Cup last year was Alcopop, and the Jake Stephen-trained gelding may well be eyeing up a start at the 2010 BMW Stakes. Winner of the Herbert Power Stakes which is over the 2,400 metre distance certainly puts the five-year-old in good stead when it comes to the the 3rd of April.
Also racing on the Golden Slipper Day will be the Group 1 races the George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m).
