Final Field For The BMW

March 30th, 2010

This weekend at Sydney’s fantastic Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, the illustrious Golden Slipper Day will take place as one of the feature days of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, and will see a fantastic array of racing.

While the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) dominates the day’s proceedings, the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) is another favourite among spectators, and will take place as the fifth of nine races on Saturday.

Kicking off just before 2.30pm, the BMW will see 12 horses compete over the staying distance for a share in the $225,000 purse, and the line up is certainly of top quality.

Theseo will be looking for his third straight Group 1 win in The BMW on Saturday.

Theseo will be looking for his third straight Group 1 win in The BMW on Saturday. The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding recently won the Chipping Norton Stakes and the Ranvet Stakes, however after drawing the eighth barrier may struggle over the longer staying distance.

Finishing third in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m), Speed Gifted will be looking to make his revenge over Theseo.

Zavite, trained by Anthony Cummings, is another contender for the BMW. Despite drawing the 10th barrier, the seven-year-old is coming off the back of two recent wins – one of which was the Auckland Cup (3200m) proving himself over the staying distance.

Starting from the inside barrier on Saturday is Harris Tweed, while Roman Emperor, trained by Bart Cummings will start from the wide 12th barrier.

Also taking place on Saturday at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will be four other Group 1 races; the Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), the Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m), the George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
