The BMW Stakes Nominations 2011

February 2nd, 2011

Seventy-five horses have been nominated for the 2011 The BMW, the $2.5 million showdown one of the feature races running at Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday April 2 for Golden Slipper Stakes Day.

The Group 1 The BMW (2400m) takes place at the same Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival meet as the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m), which is the richest race for two-year-olds in the world.

Other highlights on the all-Group-race Golden Slipper Stakes Day programme punters can enjoy a punt on through Luxbet include the $400,000 Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), the $400,000 Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) and the $400,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).

The 2011 The BMW presents one of the best autumn betting markets and the early entries feature many talented turf stars and Group 1 winners including:

Zipping (Robert Hickmott)

Linton (Robert Hickmott)

Precedence (Bart Cummings)

Praecido (David Payne)

Anacheeva (Peter G Moody)

Moudre (Ciaron Maher)

Maluckday (Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes)

Descarado (Gai Waterhouse)

Alcopop (Jake Stephens)

Trusting (John P Thompson)

Group 1 winners from last year’s Spring Carnival that have been entered for The BMW include Caulfield Guineas winning colt Anacheeva for Peter Moody, in-form veteran and Turnbull Stakes champion Zipping and Gai Waterhouse’s Caulfield Cup winner Descarado.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckday is sure to be a favourite with punters throughout the autumn including in The BMW odds, as will Galileo four-year-old Linton who will have matured since their last campaign and Victoria Derby runner-up Praecido.

Others to watch heading towards a spot in The BMW field are Moudre who won the Group 3 Queen’s Cup last start after narrowly missing out on a spot in the Caulfield Cup and the Bart Cummings-trained Precedence who showed potential as a great stayer winning the JRA Cup and Moonee Valley Cup during the spring.
