With trainer Robert Hickmott electing to scratch leading chances Green Moon and Mourayan from the final field, the 2014 Group 1 The BMW (2400m) will now feature just nine runners at Rosehill Gardens this weekend, offering punters several key chances to place a well-paying winning bet.
Having continued his impressive run of form into the 2014 racing season, 2013 Melbourne Cup champion Fiorente is understandably favourite in betting markets to claim the 2014 BMW at $2.80 odds, ahead of Ranvet Stakes winner Silent Achiever ($4), It’s A Dundeel ($4.50) and Voleuse De Coeurs ($7.50).
Can Fiorente return to the Group 1 winner’s circle this weekend, or will one of his talented rivals find The BMW line in the clear?
Returning to an ideal running distance, all signs clearly point towards another Fiorente victory this weekend. Claiming the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) first-up before comfortably winning the major Group 1 Australian Cup (20000m), the Monsun entire had an off day when seventh behind Silent Achiever in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) last time out, but has reportedly taken to work particularly well over the last fortnight. Having drawn the ideal barrier 1 for The BMW, Fiorente will again be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver, and will be particularly difficult to beat on Saturday.
Voleuse De Coeurs ($7.50)
Having completed a particularly successful preparation over mid-to-late 2013, Irish import Voleuse De Coeurs represents exception value to punters at current $7.50 odds. Beginning her racing career under the guidance of leading Irish trainer Dermot Weld, the classy Teofilo mare failed to finish outside the places in her lead up to success in the major Group 1 Irish St Leger (2816m), before ending her preparation 10th in the Melbourne Cup. Producing a strong turn of foot to find the line fifth in the Australian Cup first-up, trainer Michael Moroney is confident Voleuse De Coeurs will make the most of the ideal barrier 2, particularly with veteran jockey Glen Boss on board.
It’s A Dundeel ($4.50)
The standout performer of the 2013 autumn, It’s A Dundeel completed the three-year-old triple crown and was unlucky to finish second in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) to close the memorable preparation. Returning in typically scintillating form over spring, the talented High Chaparral entire became the only runner to deliver equine superstar Atlantic Jewel a competitive defeat in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) on September 21st. scoring two places in Group 1 races so far this year, It’s A Dundeel will have to overcome the slight wide barrier 8 of to return to the winner’s circle this weekend.
