Ten stayers have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured 2016 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Preferment carries winning form into the 2016 The BMW and remains outright $3.10 favourite with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Our Ivanhowe ($4.60) and Caulfield Cup champion Mongolian Khan ($5.50).
Will Preferment justify favouritism and win The BMW or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Our Ivanhowe ($4.60)
German import Our Ivanhowe returns to his pet distance of 2400m in the 2016 The BMW and should find a good position from the outset from barrier 8. A two-time Group 1 winner over the distance in Europe, Our Ivanhowe posted a number of commendable results in spring highlighted by second in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) and third in the Caulfield Cup (2400m), before ending his campaign with a luckless run in the Melbourne Cup. Having finished fifth in each of the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) and Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) this time, the Soldier Hollow entire appears primed for a return to winning form in The BMW.
Mongolian Khan ($5.50)
Mongolian Khan was arguably the standout stayer of the 2015 southern hemisphere racing calendar and has taken plenty of condition from two runs leading into The BMW. Winning each of the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) and Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) in autumn, the Holy Roman Emperor gelding continued to produce high quality results in spring; savaging the line for third in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) before delivering a particularly strong field a resounding defeat in the Caulfield. Having hit the line well for fifth in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) last weekend, Mongolian Khan is sure to relish a return to 2400m in The BMW.
Who Shot Thebarman ($8.50)
Consistent stayer Who Shot Thebarman ran on for third in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current The BMW odds of $8.50 for success or $2.75 to finish in the first three. Ending a strong spring campaign with success in the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m), the Yamanin Vital gelding was unable to figure in the late stages of either of the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) or Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) first-up this time but has clearly relished a continued step-up in distance.
